About me and this website...

My name is Philippe Larkin. I am a first-year PhD student at the University of Maryland, College Park. I study linguistics, and more specifically I am interested in formal phonological approaches and mathematical linguistics.

I am from Montréal, Canada. I have a bachelor's degree from Concordia University in Linguistics with a minor in Computer Science. I was originally planning to be a software engineer, but I realized I had a passion for linguistics after taking LING222 - Language and Mind: The Chomskyan Program at Concordia University!

Yes, the website header photo is done poorly by hand.

Classes I'm taking this semester (Fall 2025)

  • LING610 - Syntax
  • LING620 - Phonology
  • LING660 - Semantics

Other relevant things I've done

As an undergrad at Concordia, I got to TA for 3 semesters. I had lots of fun helping people.

I also attended the Master's program in linguistics at Université de Montréal for 1 year, and during that time assisted Prof. Michael Dow as an RA on his ongoing project.

Cohort

The first-year cohort is 6 people! Myself and: Victor Chamot , Jackson Confer , Alba Jorquera Jiménez de Aberásturi , Andrés López , Annika Shankwitz . They are all working on very interesting things and maybe one day they will have a website to share with us.
